Chicken vegetable curry. Filled to the brim with goodness and health. Making warmer Spicy dishes can be complicated with young ones. However my trick has been to slowly increase the heat as they age. Now they can eat spicier dishes but still pretty mild compared to our heat preferences. This is a great time of the year to make soul warming dishes that are also comfort inducing but not waist line inducing. One thing I keep noticing is how people are talking about slowing down, getting cozy in cozy wear and consuming warmer heartier dishes. No where in that statement includes physical activity to help keep that immune system boosted and your circulation going to help clear out your daily toxin load. Our bodies are amazing but we need to give it the tools to be amazing. You can have your healthy life style and eat your ice cream too! Foods should not be classified as “good” or “bad”. This way of thinking brings us into negative thinking patterns and a “this for that” mentality. Wellness is about truly balancing. To be balanced one must fill the scales with all “types” of food, activities, mental health, spiritual health, celebration, and even deprivation. Being healthy is about creating a strong foundation and allowing yourself to build it block by block, one at a time. So make sure you are balanced. This normally would have stressed me out. But I decided to view it from her eyes and also look at it as the situation it was. If she is with me, the mess is contained to my direct eyesight. We washed dishes together for 45 minutes. Talking about each one and how to clean it and when it was just right. Educating her on home ec at an early age. That is wellness all over!!! Wellness for her curiosity and life, wellness for my momma heart to share a dreadful task and make it fun, and wellness in my heart when she looked up and said “lub you momma! So fun!!!”.
Wellness doesn’t have to be just food, activity, and health related. Wellness is in your heart and soul. Wellness is everywhere around us if we change our mindset to view situations as just that. Opportunities to love, teach,grow, learn, and just be. Take time to meditate/pray/be alone/contemplate/and just be. It is important to spend time with yourself. As my children grow we talk a lot about taking time to decompress and have feelings and think. My oldest is really good about letting us know if she needs a few minutes and I did not realize until today. In the hustle and bustle of. Fun activity that my Tenley was taking some “time” to just be and think and feel and explore on her own without the help or addition of others. Self confidence. What is it to you? How do you personally get it? How do you keep it? When do you feel the most confident? When do you feel the least? Does your confidence hinge on other’s to give it to you? Or is it there for you to take it out and wear it and feel it whenever you want? Did anyone ever tell you that you own your confidence and it is no one single person’s right to give it or take it from you? Do you know that part of confidence of also self esteem? Did anyone teach you to spend time on your self esteem and to grow it or did society teach you how to have it taken away if you don’t follow their rules? Are you part of that society or do you choose to not partake? The truth is, I don’t care what others think of me. I don’t rely on them to lift me up. I believe I am worth my self esteem and my confidence. I believe in my heart and soul that it is up to us to build each other up and not tear each other down. So why is this part of wellness and nutrition? Body confidence, follow through, body image, weight, food insecurities, disease, life, ability to change. All these are either positively or negatively affected by self esteem and confidence. To make a change you need to be bold and take the change by the horns.
